Youth In Transition - Building a Foundation for a Brighter Future for Homeless & At-Risk Youth and Young Adults through Advocacy, while providing some direct services such as case-management, crisis-intervention, and outreach.
YIT exists to address the plight of Albuquerque's homeless youth by striving to secure a better life and advocating for their rights and needed services.
We stand against systemic neglect, abuse, violence, and injustice, even in the face of powerful opposition. We strive to overcome the biggest obstacles our youth face: Apathy, Fear, Ignorance, Poverty, and Discrimination.
Our Goal is to rebuild a safe haven, where no one is exluded; where street kids can run to when they need a place where adults are there with open arms, ready to assist them in their search for self-sufficiency, acceptance, and a healthier, more productive life. We need to re-establish our existence as a 'first response' and 'triage' agency, because we are committed to saving lives.
Most of our young people feel forgotten. They have so many problems just trying to survive the brutal and dehumanizing environment of the streets, and then are subjected to worse conditions by the "system" that is supposed to help them.
In a world where poverty, racism, oppression, and classism still exists, we struggle for the rights of those who are unable to fight for themselves, by being the 'voice' that society and its leaders cannot refuse to hear.
